Expectations: Divorced from Reality

Expectations are inherently divorced from reality. We formulate our expectations based on all of the data that we can gather. However, we can never come upon a complete set of data for our reason to work. Therefore, when we make a decision - in this case, to have an expectation - it is based on incomplete evidence from the start. Therefore, having an expectation cannot be based wholly in reality, as none of our decisions can. We must keep in mind that we, as humans, are problem-solving machines, and to do that, we automatically make broad assumptions and vast simplifications. If we did not operate this way, we would never be able to do or get anything done.
