Fire Hose

I have noticed that with electronic devices we are being bombarded with more data than ever. Could it be that these sources of endless content are like fire hoses of information spewing directly into our faces? Perhaps when we drink from a fire hose we are not able to drink enough because most of it is forced out of our mouths by the pressure. It makes sense to me that we are having the same issue with information nowadays. Maybe, we have all of this information flying by our faces and are not able to catch much. Perhaps we think about our lives in terms of a 24 hour news cycle and not as deeply as someone schooled in the Socratic Method.
