Close One Door To Open Another

"As one chapter concludes, another begins. As one door closes, another opens. As one sun sets, another rises." - PJW

How is it that we are to know what it is that we have been put here to do? What in this life are we supposed to carry out?

The human condition prevents us from knowing what it is that we were put here to do, unless we do it. We have not been equipped with foresight. The only way to know is to do. We as humans are experiential beings. The only way to know the color of the grass on the other side, is to walk over and have a close look at it. Only you can tell if that grass is in fact for you a greener experience than the one you were at prior.

The power that humans harbor is decision. We are all moving in one linear forward direction with the arrow of time. However, we can choose which right and left turns that we take. Perhaps these decisions are influenced by every experience that we have had before this present moment. How strong of an effect this has is unknown. What is known is that when we make a decision we always fail to take into account all possible information. There are always unknowns. The amount and degree to which those affect the outcome of one of our decisions, is, well, unknown.

I have made yet another large life decision. I will be leaving California in the morning. This is a place I love. I realize that by moving to another place and having a new experience it will force me to grow. I am equally nervous and excited for the change. I know that new experiences with many unknowns are nothing but good for me. This opportunity is after all, a childhood dream. I will be working for the automaker General Motors. Will the grass be as green as I have dreamed? This is unknown.

I moved to California 5 years and 4 months ago to the day. I moved here with open arms and no expectations. I knew that deep down I was not happy. I trusted the process and completely surrendered to the experiences that I had. I am now a much happier and more grounded person. I still have my work to do, but that is yet another part of the human condition. I know that this new endeavor will help me to expand my horizons in the best of ways.

This opportunity has been years, if not decades in the making. Luck is not random, it is forged. It takes years of hard work, determination, and dedication in order to achieve one’s goals. All of the best and brightest, most “gifted” minds of all time ferociously devoured knowledge. They were constantly exploring and expanding their repertoire. By the time they had emerged as widespread idols, they had spent decades studying and exploring the topics that were interesting to them. I feel that I have spent years doing the same and this move is the result of the luck that I myself and my circumstances have forged.

With all of this being said, I hope that I am able to inspire you my readers. It is critical that each one of us finds our unique purpose. We are all formed like keys by all of our experiences. We are able to open doors for ourselves and others that no one else can. It is our life’s mission to experiment until we figure out what fills us up, what makes us content. I am very much like you. I do not know what it is that I should be doing. I struggle with this debate often. The only thing I can do is to take the next step and trust in the process. This is what I am doing.
