Blood is not everything

Blood is not everything

What makes a parent? Does giving birth constitute being a parent? In my mind, if someone raises a child in a loving, caring, and nurturing way, they are a parent. If, on the other hand, they merely give birth to the child and no less than abandon it, they are not. Now there is always a scale between two poles like the ones previously mentioned. It makes sense to me that blood does not define a parent. The purpose of a parent is to raise a child to adapt to the social realm appropriately. Therefore, if our parents are not doing that, then we can and will find other people who will treat us well and will help us to adapt and overcome life in this world.
