Influenced, not Destined
By examining Family Systems Theory, we can conclude that our history and our family has a profound impact on who we are. However, it seems critical to realize that this is an influence, not an absolute destiny. This idea is to say; perhaps our family is exceptionally emotionally reactive. To think that we, ourselves, will not be some semblance of emotionally reactive is naive. However, it is our choice as to whether we will be tossed around by the storms of our family ocean, or if we will work our hardest to paddle about even if it is in a rowboat on the open ocean.
