Self Knowledge and Awareness
If we are going to set proper boundaries, the first step is to understand who and what we are. Because we are somewhat rational, but mostly emotional beings, it makes sense that we would focus on our feelings. This notion is all part of self-awareness. We become aware of ourselves through study and the reflection that others provide. When our boundaries are crossed, we are mainly dealing with an emotional response to a physical or perceived cognitive encroachment from another. Therefore, it is of paramount importance to know who we are and what we stand for so that if those values are violated, we can act.
