Guarded

Since the advent of the new 24-hour news cycle, it seems as though our perspective has become distorted. We have adopted this notion that everything is getting worse all of the time. To add to this, it seems as though the entire world is a significant and scary place. Sure, bad things happen. Sure, people get killed. However, generally speaking, those incidents are rare. The news coverage provides a means by which this information is concentrated, and all we see is bad or negative. If we compare the amount of malice that occurs to the entire population, the ratio is small. This angle should give us a bit of solace and allow us to let our guard down a bit in hopes of forging new human connections to become a little less lonely.
