Selflessness

If we are genuinely selfless, then we are committing the ultimate selfish act. The only reason that we help other people is that it makes us feel good. We are value directed and goal-oriented creatures. If we don’t value a good feeling, then we do not act. If we know that a goal will not make us feel good, we do not plan to achieve it. Therefore, the only way to direct our actions toward selfless behavior is to orient that in our value structure in such a way that makes us feel good.
