Perception
We feel fear because we perceive danger as imminent. The interesting thing about perception is that it does not make it a reality. Take, for example, the risk of dying in a car accident versus an airplane crash. We perceive the threat of dying in a plane as being very high or even sure when, in reality, the statistics do not support this. When it comes to car accidents, the opposite is correct. This notion comes down to our perceived level of control. When we drive a car, we feel like we are in control when, in reality, we are in much less power than we think, according to statistics.
